As many of you know, BWB volunteers answered the call to action in responding to the devastating earthquake that struck Peru on August 15th, 2007. At the close of our operations we welcomed over 350 volunteers and gifted over 54,000 volunteer hours. Yet the assisted formation of Pisco Sin Fronteras is beginning to prove the most substantial impact we've made so far. PSF is now a fully functioning Peruvian NGO, but the support of this community is as important as ever. Find out how you can get involved today!!

BWB Volunteer Shout Out Pisco

In August of 2008, BWB Peru Volunteers wanted to ensure that our efforts would continue long after BWB pulled out of Pisco.  It was apparent that way too often international aid groups arrive shortly after a disaster, but cannot commit to the years of assistance that is needed.  As Burners we wanted to try to set a different module for international disaster relief.  Working closely with local Peruvians we assisted with the formation of Peruvian based, Pisco Sin Fronteras (Pisco without Borders), as we like to think the first international Burners without Borders regional organization.  Now a year and a half later, our module is proving successful.  PSF has welcomed over 800 volunteers and is deploying as many as 100 volunteers daily into the community supporting a  multitude of projects.

Within our long term recovery module, we always knew BWB’s major strength was our network of skilled volunteers and our ability to build infrastructure and adapt to foreign surroundings.  Today in Pisco the framework of our efforts continues, but our support is needed as much as ever.  The large numbers of PSF volunteers are more than dedicated to the reconstruction of Pisco, yet are lacking the extensive skills our community possesses.

So, BWB is putting the call out for skilled volunteers willing to dedicate at least four weeks to help this young organization reach its potential and prove that the Burner energy is unstoppable.   Please take a look at PSF’s current projects and think if you’re ready to expand the 2 ½ years Burner impact in our Peruvian Playa.
