Greening the Beige is a virtual + annual event platform to connect and strengthen Beijing’s green community. Our ultimate goal is to further environmental awareness and education in Beijing through arts and culture.

GTB ONLINE: the website (under development) is a public tool to post news, information, events, artwork, and even job listings focused on green living in BJ. Slowly but surely we are building our online community, with the plan to maintain and innovate a lively interactive green community space on the web:

GTB ANNUAL EVENT: starting in 2007, returning in 2008, and preparing for 2009, Greening the Beige exists to host an annual event that connects innovative “green” artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, experts, researchers, entrepreneurs based in the capital, and encourage interactivity and communication throughout a diverse cross-section of the residential community.

SUPPORT GTB: There are a few different ways to help us make Beijing a greener place to live. Here’s how:

1)    Join us! GtB would like to strengthen and continue expanding community of “green” thinkers and creative doers in Beijing. Help us to help you stay in touch with your crafty eco-friendly neighbors by registering to become a member at

Once you’re a member you can start posting your very own juicy green blog entries, photos, and add comments to other member’s posts. Soon you’ll be able to do other things on the site, too, like post your own event, start a discussion, or even promote artwork and projects!
You’ll also have the option to receive monthly updates from GtB highlighting hot and recent activity on our website.

2)    Get Involved! GtB is currently accepting proposals from artists, musicians, designers, dancers, DJs, student groups, experts, filmmakers, researchers, green business owners, health nuts, athletes, and basically everyone under the sun that would like to share in our 3rd Annual Event, coming up this November 2009. The only guideline we ask participants to follow is relating to our theme this year: RE-ENERGIZE BEIJING!! Preference towards topics and content based on the use of current energy sources and “new”, renewable, alternative, clean(er) sources. Deadline for participant involvement is AUGUST 31, 2009.

3)    Help steer GtB! As a volunteer, un-funded, labor of love operation, we are always looking for more support in terms of administration, management, planning, research, content updating, IT know-how, design, public outreach, gifts-in-kind, sponsorship, collaboration, and partnership.
