Golden Gate National Recreation Area worked with Burners Without Burners to create a dozen artistic fire rings that were installed on Ocean Beach in 2008 as an effort to contain the popular beach fires to specific locations. It’s the latest attempt to solve the age-old problem of people lighting fires on Ocean Beach and leaving a big mess behind — a problem that had the GGNRA on the verge of banning fires outright until Burners Without Borders stepped in with a solution: let Burning Man artists design and install fire rings.
