Mucaro for Puerto Rico

Location: - Map It STATUS: Active

El Mucaro, also known as the Puerto Rican Screech Owl, is the owl native to the island of Puerto Rico, and the inspiration behind artist El NiNo’s Burning Man Honoraria Art Grant Installation in 2017.

Now, through the interactive installation of MÚCARO for Puerto Rico, el NiNo plan to create thought-provoking programs, unveil the positive, creative side of sustainability, and transform the participants into proactive agents of change. Mucaro for Puerto Rico is a Burning Man Global Art Grant recipient. The project, which is so close to the artist’s heart, aims to teach creative and collaborative thinking to the people of his homeland, which NiNo considers to be essential for developing innovative solutions to its complex environmental and social problems. An additional aim of the project is to boost Puerto Rico’s economy by providing work for locals and purchasing tools, materials and food from local businesses on the island during the build.
