The Mobile Dignity Shower Project

CALL FOR DESIGNERS:

Location: Dunkirk, France | Charity: CharitableRoots

CharitableRoots is calling on engineers, plumbers, and designers to help us build a high-capacity, rapid-response shower system for displaced people in Dunkirk.

The Mission :In the camps of Northern France, a hot shower is a rare moment of peace and safety. We are building a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that provides reliable hygiene while remaining agile enough to move at a moment’s notice.

Phase 1: The Core (The MVP)

• We need a robust, high-traffic system capable of 100+ showers per day.
• Plumbing: Direct mains connection & drainage compatibility.
• Heat: Safe, high-flow hot water.
• The “”Strike”” Factor: Must be collapsible and storable in minutes for rapid relocation.
• Ethics: Built with environmentally friendly and sustainable materials.

Phase 2: The Dignity Roadmap (Extra Credit)

We aren’t just building a box; we are building a sanctuary. We are seeking “”Future Release”” ideas to integrate:

• The Valet System: Integrated coat hangers and dry storage areas to keep clean clothes off the ground.
• Self-Care Station: Shatterproof mirrors for shaving and shelves for toiletries.
• The “Solidarity Wall”: Integrated space for artwork and messages of love from the UK to remind guests they are not forgotten.
• The Goal: A system that is mechanically sound for the volunteer and emotionally uplifting for the guest.

How You Can Help

We are currently in the Design & Feasibility phase.

We need:

• Mechanical Leads: Help us solve the hot water/drainage puzzle.
• Product Designers: Help us integrate the “”Dignity Upgrades”” into a small, foldable footprint.
• Artists & Makers: Help us think about how to weave “”heart”” into a functional structure.

 Help us bring heat and hope to the coast.

This is a vital piece of mutual aid infrastructure. Let’s build something that respects the environment and the people who use it.

For the ‘Future Release’ items like the Solidarity Wall, you might suggest a laser-etched wooden panel or a weatherproof message pocket system. This allows the art to be easily swapped out or protected during transport.
