Spring Summit At Fly Ranch 2020

March 5, 2020

We are excited to invite you to:
The Spring BWB Summit/Family Campout!
May 8-10th, 2020 (Mother’s Day weekend)
Fly Ranch, Nevada

The May 2019 Summit started something special, and we’re thrilled to continue our exploration of in-person convenings with our global community at Fly Ranch.

The BWB Summit at Fly Ranch will be a weekend of discovery and connection with stakeholders across our diverse engagement channels (volunteers, projects leads, chapters and working groups, affiliates, grantees, and you!). The Summit will be loosely structured to  provide ample opportunity for formal conversations, community activities, and personal discovery.

The core intention of this convening is to foster opportunities for our community members to familiarize themselves with themselves, each other, and Fly Ranch in new ways. We hope these in-person experiences will continue the conversations about where we, as a community, want to set our sights for the future.

Where

Fly Ranch is a 3,800-acre ranch approximately 12 miles from Black Rock Desert, the site of Burning Man Project’s Black Rock City event. Fly Ranch was purchased by the Burning Man Project to imagine what a permanent home for a temporary community might look like. Wanna get excited? Watch this video!

From the beginning, BWB and Fly Ranch have collaborated as sister projects within the Burning Man ecosystem, and we are  closely aligned in our shared missions and intentions to leave a positive trace worldwide. Don’t forget to check out the Fly Ranch LAGI2020 Design Challenge.

What:
Part think tank, part work weekend, part family campout – We hope that some of you will join us for this special opportunity to deepen our relationships, densen our network, and have powerful conversations about our impacts.

This Spring Summit will be participant driven – so the content is emergent. Our weekends at Fly Ranch are our prototyping grounds. If you joined our first campout, this one will surely be different :). We look forward to exploring with you!

Self care and wellness are foundational tenets of our convenings, so there will be plenty of time to rest, recharge, and be present in the unique landscape at Fly Ranch.

How:
Think of it like a theme camp for a weekend. It will be a completely community-created experience. Radical Self-Reliance will be a by-word of the weekend, with meals planned and created by participants. Everyone will be personally responsible for their own water, trash disposal, etc. If you are interested in being a core collaborator/lead for this event, we look forward to hearing from you.

We are sure that you have questions about the event. The final framing for the weekend is still under construction, but we wanted those of you who are interested in attending to be able to get it on your calendars now. There will be the ability to utilize some support (shelter, rideshare, etc.) on a need-basis, especially for those who are coming from further away. While some of this support will come from the BWB and  Fly Ranch teams – most of that support will come from the community of participants.

We would like to offer this opportunity to everyone, but space is limited. If you are interested in attending the 2020 Spring Fly Ranch Summit on May 8th – 10th please fill out this interest form
*Note: BWB is reserving a select set of tickets for members of the PLPT, as well as Gerlach and Empire locals. Please let us know if you are a member of one of these communities with interest in attending- and we will reach out with specialty tickets for you when you make your interest known in the above form.

Please let us know as soon as possible. Please share this invitation with others who may be right for this event. The BWB team will respond as soon as possible to confirm your attendance via a registration link.
