BWB Colombia

How It All Started

It all began with a simple idea: What if we could bring the Burning Man experience to Colombia—not just the art and the music, but the radical community spirit that makes things happen? In 2021, after two long years without Burning Man due to COVID, our camp, Ofosho (best ramen on the Playa), was feeling the loss. Half of us were in the U.S., half in Colombia, and we desperately missed each other—the dust, the connection, the magic of building something together. So, we did what Burners do best: we made it happen anyway.

That’s how TropicOfosho was born—an intimate burn in Colombia, for our camp members and curious virgins. It wasn’t Black Rock City, but under the stars, surrounded by music, art, and each other, we felt the playa spirit come alive. And something else happened: being together again, after so long apart, reignited something in us. The deep connections we had built at Burning Man didn’t just belong in the desert—they belonged in our everyday lives, in our communities, in our country.

Inspired by that realization, we decided to do more. We donated funds from our event to a child rights NGO, proving that even in the middle of the party, civic responsibility could thrive. And the fire kept burning. A few months later, we reached out to BWB Headquarters, gathered over 50 volunteers, and launched our first two impact projects.

Just like that, we went from missing Burning Man to bringing its principles to life in Colombia—turning our love for community into real-world action. Puro FUEGO! 🔥🔥🔥

Our Mission: Turning Playa Principles into Real-World Action

At BWB Colombia, we live and breathe the ten principles, bringing them into the streets, the mountains, and the hearts of local communities. Here’s what we’re all about:

🔥 Infusing Burning Man Values Locally – Radical self-expression? Communal effort? Gifting? Hell yes! We’re bringing the spirit of the playa to Colombia, one project at a time.

🌍 Mobilizing Community for Civic Impact – We rally burners, artists, and dreamers to tackle real-world challenges, from reforestation to youth empowerment, because participation is everything.

🌱 Building a Sustainable Future – We don’t just burn; we plant. Our projects focus on environmental conservation and sustainability because Mother Earth is the ultimate art piece.

Jump In, Get Dirty, Make a Difference!

We’re not just a group—we’re a movement, and there’s plenty of room for you. Here’s how you can get involved:

PROJECTS

Recognizing the environmental impact of international travel, especially for events like Burning Man, BWB Colombia has launched a project to offset the carbon emissions of approximately 50 community members traveling from Bogotá to Black Rock City. In collaboration with Shambala, an eco-conscious activist community in Colombia, we are:
The Germinator (Since 2023) Have you noticed that every aspect of human development and life itself relies on water? In Colombia, this precious resource springs from the páramos, unique high-altitude ecosystems nestled in the Andes Mountains. These tropical water-generating zones are vital, supplying water to over 36 million Colombians. However, they face significant threats from mining,…
Ikigaï Explorers (2021-2023) In Colombia, social mobility is a steep climb. With one of the widest gaps between rich and poor in the world, wealth and opportunity stay locked at the top, making it incredibly hard for families to move up. On average, it takes 11 generations for someone born into poverty to reach the…
Bee Safe (2022-2023) In 2022, BWB Colombia set out on a buzzing mission—to protect native bees, restore biodiversity, and teach the next generation why these tiny pollinators are kind of a big deal. With the help of a BWB MicroGrant, we launched Bee Safe, a conservation and community education project in Zipacón, Colombia, dedicated to repopulating stingless honey…
