The Germinator (Since 2023)

Have you noticed that every aspect of human development and life itself relies on water? In Colombia, this precious resource springs from the páramos, unique high-altitude ecosystems nestled in the Andes Mountains. These tropical water-generating zones are vital, supplying water to over 36 million Colombians. However, they face significant threats from mining, livestock farming, and polluting agriculture. 

In collaboration with the Ancestral Foundation, we dreamt The Germinator—a greenhouse sanctuary dedicated to nurturing thousands of native plants to rejuvenate our endangered mountains and páramos. This project aims not only to restore these critical ecosystems but also to raise community awareness about their importance. By engaging rural communities adjacent to Chingaza’s Páramo, located just 1.5 hours from Bogotá, we strive to foster sustainable development and environmental stewardship.

In June 2023, we planted our first roots—literally. Our inaugural tree-planting day brought together 20 nature lovers for an unforgettable experience in the páramos. We hiked through the misty peaks, practiced barefoot yoga on the soft moss, shared a picnic by the river, and most importantly, placed the very first native shoots of The Germinator into the earth. That day wasn’t just about planting trees—it was about planting a vision. With nearly $600 raised, our commitment to restoring these fragile ecosystems grew even stronger. 

Then, many days of work at the reserve and fundraisers in Bogota later, a business angel stepped in, offering to donate all construction materials and fully fund our greenhouse. This was the breakthrough we had been working toward. Now, in 2025, The Germinator will enter a whole new phase, scaling up to grow thousands of native plants and breathe life back into the páramos on a much larger scale. What started as a dream is now taking root—stronger, bigger, and more unstoppable than ever.
