Burning Clean: Colombia Offsets the Dust (2025)

Recognizing the environmental impact of international travel, especially for events like Burning Man, BWB Colombia has launched a project to offset the carbon emissions of approximately 50 community members traveling from Bogotá to Black Rock City. In collaboration with Shambala, an eco-conscious activist community in Colombia, we are:

• Calculating Emissions: Assessing the carbon footprint for round-trip flights from Bogotá to Reno and car rentals (carpooling four people per vehicle) to Gerlach.
  
• Planting Trees in the Amazon: Purchasing and planting native trees to sequester carbon, contributing to the reforestation of the Amazon.
  
• Community Engagement Activities: Starting in May, we will organize plogging events (combining jogging with litter collection) and build “huertas comunitarias” (community gardens) in Bogotá, enhancing urban green spaces and promoting environmental awareness.
