Pack It Out, Pass It On: Reno Donation and Waste Collection
As participants make their way home from Black Rock City, local Scout Troop 1847 is offering a responsible place to dispose of waste and give usable items a second life.
Hosted over Labor Day weekend, this collection event will support local nonprofit organizations while raising funds for the Troop’s outdoor adventures and community service projects.
Dates and Times
- Saturday, September 5: 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
- Sunday, September 6: 9:00 AM–3:00 PM
- Monday, September 7: 8:00 AM–5:00 PM
Drop-Off Location
5125 Mill Street, Reno, Nevada
The site is conveniently located next to the Kiwanis Bike Program’s playa bike-return location and along the route to the Reno airport and major highways.
Please visit only during the posted collection hours. Do not leave items unattended or “dump and run.”
What Will Be Accepted
Troop 1847 will collect:
- Bagged trash — $10 per bag
- Recyclable materials
- Nonperishable food and water
- Camping gear
- Toiletries and cleaning supplies
- Bedding
- Other clean, safe, and usable items
The Troop will use its discretion when determining which donated items can be accepted. Please sort your materials before arriving and make sure all donated goods are clean and in usable condition.
Giving Useful Items a Second Life
Usable donations will be distributed to nonprofit and community organizations in the Reno area. Past recipients have included:
- Hope Community Church Food Pantry
- We Got You Reno
- The Eddy House
- Habitat for Humanity
- Other organizations serving local community needs
By donating thoughtfully, participants can reduce waste while helping essential supplies reach people who can use them.
Support Local Scouts
All proceeds from trash collection will support Troop 1847’s camping and backpacking trips, outdoor excursions, and community service activities. The Troop is also exploring ways to assist another local Scout troop that reportedly lost its gear in the Hawk Fire.
