BWB Spring Summit 2023 (Fly Ranch, NV)

Virtual Events

In a world where our challenges and opportunities are increasingly interconnected, maintaining strong and active connections within our global volunteer network is crucial. We host several virtual meetups each year to bring together our diverse community. These events provide a platform for sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and fostering collaborations.

Annual In-Person Events

We host two major annual in-person events that bring our community together: The BWB Summit and BWB in Black Rock City. These events are vital for strengthening our network, inspiring action, and cultivating a shared vision.

BWB Summits at Fly Ranch

BWB’s work began humbly at Fly Ranch in April 2018. Twelve BWB volunteers made up the first Fly Work Weekend. We have since hosted over a dozen Work Weekends at Fly, and in 2019 we began producing BWB Summits there. These are in-person opportunities to connect, in a small group setting.

The partnership between Fly Ranch and Burners Without Borders is an endeavor in collective stewardship.  Due to the current capacity limitations of the infrastructure, we can only host 99 people on the land at a time. We wish we could welcome all our community members to all events, but the delicate ecosystem is telling us to grow slowly.

Our hope is to scale this event in conjunction with the land to ensure we have the lightest footprint possible.

Our Summits have grown to have three guiding concepts that help us structure the programming we provide: Serve, Learn, and Celebrate.

BWB in Black Rock City (BWB-BRC)

BWB came to Black Rock City (BRC) for the first time in 2006, following our genesis project after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Each year we host around 100-120 campers.

Our camp is a physical manifestation of our mission and our community in the Black Rock Desert. We seek to bring together do-ers, makers, and change makers who are bringing the 10 principles to life beyond the orange trash fence. We do this by hosting a speaker series, a maker space (MRU) and evening conversations around the fire-pit, as well as supporting the participant-facing BRC sustainability teams like BLASTRAT, and The Green Corridor.

The Ultimate Intention of BWB-BRC is:
To practice & celebrate ‘Thriving Community Models’

We strive to be a destination in Black Rock City that is both fun & meaningful.  It is through the joyful celebration of our work that the message is transmitted.

Many flock to Burning Man each year in search of a hyperreality full of fun, creativity, imagination and elevated humanity; a transcendental space where we push the limits of what we entertain to be possible.

And then there’s people who take it a step further.

Since 2005, Burners Without Borders has served as a humanitarian/disaster relief wing of Burning Man that has engaged and assisted communities in need with the temporal infrastructure tech, culture and expertise of “the playa”. It has also led the initiative of “burning green”; treading sustainably when it comes to water, energy, food, waste and all else that demands a mindful relationship with the natural elements.

It’s no surprise that this is the camp I’ve been proud to call home during my last burns.

such a delight to assist the BWB summit this past weekend and commune with others that believe that celebration is a key catalyst for systemic transformation.
