LEA Mission Statement:
The League of Extraordinary Albertan’s mission is to act as a resource in intiating and propagating art and culture that is rooted in the ethos of our community and to uphold the 10 Principles of Burning Man. Our intention is to act in an open and transparent way and to safeguard the resources entrusted to us in a way that best benefits our community.
Project History of LEA:
With the money raised by The Robin Awards, directed through the LEA, we are able to provide a dinner with desert to the clientele of the Calgary Drop In Shelter.
We often talk of the 10 principles how they can apply to Burning Man, now here’s a chance to apply some of them in the default world.
Santa’s Little Extraordinary Helpers – Dec.23rd, 2014, Dec.17th, 2015
Ever wonder where all those donations go after they’re dropped off at the front door of The Mustard Seed? Find out in this unique opportunity to help sort and organize donations at their Resource Sorting Centre. Organizations such as the Mustard Seed see a huge increase in donations around this time of the year and they need lots of extra help sorting everything. Sorter Volunteers open bags of donations and evaluate them based on needs, arrange clothing based on type, separate hygiene items into bins, sizing pants, etc.
A Helpful Burner Recipe;
1/2 cup of Radical Inclusion – No prerequisites exist to participate
1 package of bacon
2 cups of Participation – We achieve being through doing
1 cup of Gifting – Our time
1 tsp of Civic Responsibility – Respect the Collective
A whole bunch of Communal Effort @ the Calgary Food Bank!
And a slice of Immediacy – Sign up now!
The LEA is organizing a group of Extraordinary Albertans to gift some time and help out at the Calgary Food Bank warehouse. The Calgary Food Bank is a charitable, non-profit organization dedicated to gathering and distributing quality emergency food to those in need. Some of the duties we may be doing would be sorting incoming food donations and assembling emergency food hampers.
Come join the League of Extraordinary Albertans as we participate in the annual Calgary River Cleanup day on May 3rd. All are welcome to come help us cleanup the areas around Calgary’s waterways.
This is a great way to bring at least one of our 10 principles into the default world.
Which one? Take your pick!
Radical Inclusion: Anyone can join us
Gifting: Gift your time
Decommodification: Free and community driven
Radical Self Reliance: Let’s clean up our community ourselves
Radical Self Expression: Wear what you want! (just make sure it’s ok getting dirty)
Communal Effort: Work together with your community
Civic Responsibility: Show you care about your community, volunteer
Leave no Trace: Pretty self explanatory
Participation: No ribbon, unless you find one.
Immediacy: Be one with nature, and clean it up.
The LEA is pleased to organize a group of Extraordinary Albertans to gift their time by helping out at Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta’s Redstone Project! By participating in this build we will help 14 families build a better future!
No skills are required, you just need a willingness to learn and a great attitude. We will be teamed up with Habitat’s construction staff and crew leaders to be guided through the many steps in building a house. You may gain new skills by the end of the day, but above all you will walk away with a sense of accomplishment for making a difference in our community.
